BOTSWANA | SEASONS

LOW & GREEN SEASON

Between January & March

Rainy & summer season. Good rainfall months characterised by warm and early days and late afternoons, cloud build-up and short thunderstorms. Lush & green beautiful vegetation and stunning clouds and sunset colours. Rainfall in the desert can be very productive, creating scenic desert landscapes attracting a plethora of plains game such as springbok and gemsbok which converge in their hundreds and thousands to graze. These are followed in turn by predators in good numbers.

SHOULDER SEASON

Between April & June | Also between November & December

End of the rainy season and beginning of winter between April and June. November and December are summer and beginning of the rainy season. Floodwaters make their appearance in the northern and central parts of the Okavango Delta. The peak of the flood with seasonal food plains inundated down to the southern reaches of the Delta. Water activities possible in some areas and dry land game drive areas reduced in some areas. At night and early morning time the temperatures can be chilly specially from June until August.

High & DRY Season

Between July & October

Still winter until August. September is a beautiful month with a lot of flowers in the trees. October is summer. Generally no rainfall with warm days and the receding of the flood. Very dry and hot towards the latter part of this period with no water remaining inland and therefore large concentrations of elephants and general game around available water areas. Can be quite dusty from August until October.
